simple_sundar எந்திரன் ஆடியோ போஸ்டர்கள் தயாராகி ஆடியோ WHOLESALE மார்க்கெட்டான ரிச்சி தெருவிற்கு வந்து இறங்கியவுடன் அடுத்த நொடி நமக்கு அது குறித்து தகவல் வந்துவிட்டது. நமது தளத்திற்காக அந்த போஸ்டர்களை புகைப்படமெடுத்துவிட்டு
அப்படியே முக்கிய ஆடியோ டீலர்களையும் பார்த்து பேசிவிட்டு வரலாம் என்று திட்டமிட்டோம்.

ரிச்சி தெருவில் நாம் முதலில் சந்தித்தது, சூப்பர் ட்ராக்ஸ் என்னும் கடையை தான். ஆடியோ WHOLE SALE DEALER களில் முக்கியமான கடை இது. கடையின் முன்பு ஒட்டப்பட்டிருந்த அசத்தலான போஸ்டரை போவோர் வருவோர் அனைவரும் ஒரு கணம் நின்று ரசித்து பார்த்துவிட்டு சென்றனர். பலர், ஆர்வமுடன் விசாரித்த வண்ணமிருந்தனர்.

as soon as i recieved the information that enthiran’s audio posters are out i planned to visit richie street to take the photographs of poster and also planned for interviews with leading dealers in the richie street.unfortunately the time i reached was arround 7-7.30 , it is very difficult to take photographs in this time because of the reflection du to flash, anyways with confidence entered the street for the infos.
inside the street, the first shop we entered is SUPER TRACKS , a key audio delaer in the area, lot of people curiously watched the posters and there were enquiries too.
i spoke with mr.kishore , the owner of the shop. he said after pasting the posters they are getting lot of enquiries and with paper ads the response will increase .
q;genrally , for which films there will be great sales?
always our thalaivar’s films had agreat response, apart from those periodically some hits will also have a decent sale e.g subramaniapuram, vinnai thaandi varuvaya

abdul rahman continued, if other films sales goes up to 100 thalaivars film will go up to 300 400, we will buy 2 or 3 lots and there wont be a single cd in stock,for sivaji there were sales even after release of the film too.

always top, for his films only without even listening to the songs we will order the lot,with so much of confidence, for other films only afer song release we order.

for his films , we will be running out of stock, for sivaji there was not even a single cd remaining.secondly for his films, we have cash and carry business only, first we have to pay the cash then only we will be allowed to take the stock, for sivaji avm itself released the audio hence they had a great profit, they zeroed the stock without any cd remaining , thats a big achievement, we all repeatedly bought and sold.not just sivaji all his films re having beyond comparable sales.see this film which i bought, after films failure i am not able to move this, he told with frustration, sevral dealers also expressed the same sentiments.most people we met spoke about padaiyappa’s record.mr chandra sekhar also spoke about the same,”even people from other places stood in que to get padaiyappa cd, infact we gave police protection for them, bought in bundles. during those periods there wont be online availability of songs, fm channels were not there,but now a days ebtire songs can be downloaded from internet, also 10-12 fm stations telecasting the songs repeatedly on the release date, so these are affecting audio sales greatly.but inspite of these hurdles, if still there is a great market, and we order audio in lots that too before the release it is only for thalaivar, no other will get such a response, on that day the radio market will have a total festive mood, infact some appoint men to work during such times exclusively for thalaivars films.he has a great history in audio field and no one can ever shake his fort.
some observations during my visit
1.most of the store keepers were confident that audio will be available from 31st morning itself.
2.in coming days new enthiran posters are expected
3.the enquiries on audio of enthiran will increase many folds after add about audio release
4.in gen next- hot heroes are dhanush and kaarthi
5.even though internet, fm is there , there are still people who are ready to buy cds
6,the audio sales of thalaivars films exceeds many folda and cant be compared to any others film.
7.for some films- the audio response is so poor not even crossed single digit in sales.
8.some films have late pick up , after the audio release and become a great hit- e.g subramaniapuram
9.all the dealers are hope ful that enthiran will re write the record of sivaji

I’m thinking that Sun will market this movie only as a Tamil/Telugu language movie and not as a Hindi movie. Except for movies like Roja, we haven’t seen many movies that was accepted by both Hindi and south audience together (in spite of dubbing). There are lot of cultural differences. Given this fact, Sun might have strategized to focus on tamil/south indian diaspora. Further Hindi media might pull this movie down like they did for Raavan. SRK has a strong backing within Northern media.
Around 2 Million tamils live in Malaysia (next only to Sri Lanka) per Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamil_diaspora )
Further, Malaysia is near to other asian countries like Japan/Singapore/China/Thailand. So, Malaysia is an ideal launch pad at an international level. Assuming Japanese and Chinese will also like Enthiran music, we can easily assume Enthiran audio CD/internet purchase will be done by at least 10% of the above population. Assuming the cost is around USD 5 (which is too low), we are talking about at least USD 1 Million or Rs. 4.6 crore from the audio sales in that region alone. This then leaves them to sell another 5 lakhs CDs in India or other regions to make another 5 crores, which total Rs. 10 crores from audio sales (conservative estimate).
Sun being a media empire, will run promotion after the Malaysian launch. The show itself will be telecasted multiple times on various south indian media. There is an adage “A picture is worth a thousand words!” – so far none of Rajini sir movie’s audio release had even had a function. There were no video associated with his previous films. Now, think of the audio launch function video (including interviews) as the promotion vehicle for Sun from now on until the movie release date. THIS IS POWERFUL MARKETING TOOL. Given these facts, Sun might be underplaying now…

I’m really frustrated that this is a close door event and it is seriously not fair that it has to be done such way…We will never have another opp to meet all the superstars under one roof and thanks to the organisers to make it a private event so call..We FANS are freaking disappointed with this move as only the VVIPS, stars are getting the invitation for this event. There are thousands of Rajini, Ash, ARR and Shankar fan in Malaysia and this is certainly NOT a way to treat ur fans! No point of having an audio launch here in Malaysia when it is not open for the public..!

Sun Pictures have invested a lot of money on this project (highest for an Indian movie as you all know. We are talking of abour 20- 35 Million $ which is much higher that even films from the west like Slumdog Millionaire which was made at only 15 Million $) and they are are looking at multilple channels to recoup the costs and make a profit. Print media is one which explains why there are slowly releasing the stills in Dinakaran that they own to increase circulation while concurrently serving as a promotional activity. The audio release function is not only a promotional activity but a way to generate content that they can air on their TV channels for premium advertising. That’s why they are doing it behind closed doors. This a smart and novel way of marketing not only the movie but also associated brand and content. Brand Rajini combined with AR Rahman, Aiswarya Rai and Shankar is pretty powerful and Kalanidi Maran and Sun pictures are capitalizing on the same.
